GETTYLiverpool FC boss Jurgen Klopp makes surprise Jose Mourinho type signing
Ahead of the start or the Premier League Season Liverpool Football Club head coach Jürgen Klopp has signed on to be the brand ambassador for the new mobile football game, Football Empire.
The move is something of a surprise for the hard working German, who we wouldn't have pegged for lending his profile to a video game, something which in the past has come more naturally to some managers like Jose Mourinho who's been the face of mobile game Top Eleven in 2015 and 2016.
This OS and Android mobile game - which is currently in development - appears to offer a unique mix of football manager and building strategy games, which appears to have struck a chord with Klopp.
"In the game itself, the team facilities form the starting point of the game activities." explains developer Digamore Entertainment.
"The entire property can be designed freely, similar to strategy games or development simulations. The goal is to develop the most successful soccer team in the world and create your own personal empire. The game’s release is planned for the beginning of 2018.
Klopp is said to be supporting tha game with his expertise of the game, and according to quotes on the games website, the former Borussia Dortmund coach is looking forward to working with the experienced developers from Cologne.
“I loved the idea of the game right from the beginning," Klopp said in a recent interview.
"I know what it means to start out on the football ground and work your way up to the top of professional soccer. That’s pretty much my own story. I’d like to help players be able to experience that up close in the game,” says Jürgen Klopp.
Maik Dokter, founder of Digamore Entertainment GmbH, is also looking forward to working with Jürgen Klopp and said following the announcement:
“It’s fantastic that we were able to win over Jürgen Klopp for our game. He shares our passion for soccer, and we are convinced that we can learn a lot from him.”
And this isn't the only barmy mobile game to be released with a football star this week.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who left Manchester United in the Summer after he suffered a long-term knee injury, announced a new partnership with ISBIT GAMES for undoubtedly the weirdest new mobile game we've ever heard of.
The game, which features Zlatan himself, is a fast paced, action packed mobile game set in space.
Yes, you read that correctly. Zlatan is in space, dressed in some sort of Iron Man suit of armour, without any explanation.
Don't believe us? Then take a look at the trailer above to see for yourself.
It's not scheduled to release until next week on 17th August on the Apple App store and until then, it doesn't seem like we're going to be told anything more about this barmy new game featuring the footballing legend.
Just for a little bit of context, we're told that ‘Zlatan Legends’ has been in development for nearly two years and is the first game released by ISBIT GAMES, who incidentally is co-owned by Ibrahimović.
Daily Express Sport has suggested that AC Milan also want to bring the forward back to the San Siro.
But Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho has also told Italian broadcaster Sport Mediaset that Ibrahimovic remains likely to return to Old Trafford.
"Maybe he’ll stay with us,” Mourinho said.
“He has no contract but he is closer to Manchester.”
Despite spending over £150million on new players this summer Milan are also heavily rumoured to want Chelsea’s Diego Costa.
Ibrahimovic played at Milan for two seasons - first on loan from Barcelona before his switched in a deal worth around £19m in 2011.
