Hulu Might Become "Foundation" of Disney Streaming Service

But a deal still hasn't been reached.

If Disney completes its mooted buyout of 21st Century Fox, it may use Fox's stake in Hulu as the foundation of its own streaming service.

Disney's recently stated its intention to create its own streaming service - ending a deal with Netflix - but there's been no news as to what form such a streaming service might take. If an article in Variety is to be believed, the answer to that question might be tied into the latest reveal that Disney has reignited talks to buy 21st Century Fox.

Variety points out that any deal to buy Fox would likely include Fox's 30% stake in Hulu (the streaming service currently airing Disney's adaptation of Marvel's Runaways), which would take Disney's total stake to 60%. This, Variety says, can be seen as the "first step toward turning Hulu into the foundation" for Disney's streaming service.

It's important to note that much of this is speculation based on Variety's knowledge of the industry. Although the pieces seem to fit together, there has been no official confirmation from Disney of any plans as such. It's also important to point out that talks are still very much up in the air; although discussions are progressing, there's no guarantee that any deal will go through, and if it does, we can only speculate on what the terms of such a deal would be.

If such a deal does go through, that takes us one step closer to Chris Evans' dream of a Captain America/Human Torch Parent Trap mashup.
