Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 Is Official, Release Date Confirmed

The BlOps are back.

Activision has officially announced Call of Duty 2018 is Call of Duty: Black Ops 4, the next entry in Treyarch's Call of Duty series.

Black Ops 4 will be released for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC worldwide on Friday, Oct. 12. Those interested in actually seeing what's in store from the fourth entry in the Black Ops franchise can look forward to a community reveal on May 17.

No details about its campaign, multiplayer, or other modes were revealed as part of this initial announcement.

Reports and other leaks have suggested in recent weeks that this year's Call of Duty would indeed be the next entry in Treyarch's franchise. Reports in February suggested Black Ops 4 will tone down its sci-fi elements in favor of a "more grounded feeling" as a response to the reception of Infinite Warfare in 2016.

The official Call of Duty Twitter account dropped a small video teaser for the game.

A leaked Gamestop listing earlier this month also pointed to Black Ops 4's existence, while NBA star James Harden appeared to wear a Black Ops 4 hat in a tweet from ESPN.

Activision continues to support Treyarch's last COD entry, Black Ops 3, with a new content update this week.

IGN praised Black Ops 3 in our review when it released in 2015, saying it "meaningfully pushes the Call of Duty series forward on several fronts."
