THAT'S ALL

It was a bad night for Ireland and a reality check for all involved, as the pundits said, but Denmark rightfully progress.

REALITY CHECK - ANDREWS

"The overall campaign has been a good one, we have no divine right to finish above Austria, Serbia and Wales; we've done really really well to finish where we did but it's just the manner of the defeat that's not going to sit well, maybe it is a does of reality for the people out there. We don't have the quality of players from the teams Niall played in."

AS GOOD AS IT GETS

ANDREWS DAMNING

"That half was pure torture, I cannot believe what I've witnessed tonight. I've just witnessed gung-ho football. I thought the first-half was silly how we set up, but what we did (the subs) at half-time we were trying to work out who was going to play where.

"Clueless. Absolutely clueless. To allow the players like they have the space, the time, in the key areas of the pitch, even the substitutions, Ciaran Clark coming off - unless he's injured - with Ward going to centre-half, I really don't know what I've witnessed. No holding midfielder, lack of cohesion. It was gung-ho football and there was only going to be one winner."

QUINN REFLECTS

"You'll go a long way to see a play score three goals of that quality in a game, to turn it on like he did was incredible.

"Our inspiration from the dugout was all over the place tonight. It looked like there was way too much space for Denmark. I am so surprised Martin O'Neill went from his tried and trusted way. The game plan wasn't there, maybe the goal gave us such a false sense of security it ended up hurting us. It was hard to watch, I have to say."

FIFTH TIME LUCKY?

REP IRELAND 1-5 DENMARK

FT: It was disastrous for Ireland in the end. The stadium erupted in the opening minutes after Duffy headed an early goal but from then on it was all Denmark, as Eriksen was afforded as much space as he required for a hat-trick after Christie had turned the ball into his own goal. Eriksen's goals were all sublime but really the Irish should have had a better plan to stop him. The final nail in the coffin was a penalty from substitute Bendtner. A gloomy night for the Irish but the Danes deserve to be going to Russia and with Eriksen in their squad they can give plenty of teams a run for their money.

GOAL! REP IRELAND 1-5 DENMARK (Bendtner, pen, 90)

The fouled man was the one to step up and send the ball high into the net from 12 yards, as Randolph went the wrong way. It's been a long road back to international football for the striker, who has endured some tough years, but his celebration shows what it means to him.

89: PENALTY! Insult is added to injury as McClean takes down Bendtner in the area.

 SUMS IT UP

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

86: Cornelius has spent a long time on the ground after being winded and now Christensen is injured following a challenge from McGeady.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

85: McClean is still trying for Ireland but he will feel like he shouldn't have bothered after he cuts in from the right flank and sends a shot into Row Z.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

84: SUB! Former Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner replaces Jorgensen for Denmark as the seconds tick away.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

83: Just a matter of counting down the minutes and not exacerbating the damage inflicted here on Ireland. They won't look back on this night fondly. O'Neill looking forlorn on the sidelines.

WATCH: HAT-TRICK HERO

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

79: Eriksen has been the difference here but Ireland must have known he was the dangerman but have instead afforded the Spurs man so much space for all three of his goals. They will have to take some of the blame.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

78: Long latches onto a through ball but he can't find a finish, instead chipping the ball over Schmeichel but also the bar. His goal drought goes on.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK

77: SHOT! Sisto wants to cap off his display with a goal and comes close with a 20-yard sizzler on his left foot but it bounces just wide of the goal.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

GOAL! REP IRELAND 1-4 DENMARK (Eriksen, 74)

Cornelius sends a cross into the box which Ward fails to control, as the ball rolls into Eriksen's path, allowing the Dane to smash in his hat-trick goal from 12 yards. Eriksen really has been the difference for the Danes but the Irish could have stopped two of the goals with ease.

REP IRELAND 1-3 DENMARK

66: SHOT! Ireland work the ball around the box, eventually sending it out to Ward bombing down the left flank, from where the full-back picks out McClean in the area but the West Brom midfielder's header was always going over.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-3 DENMARK

65: Is there any hope for Ireland? Denmark really are on top and their hosts now require three goals to earn a place in Russia. Surely Shane Long will be on soon. They will certainly go down fighting.

GOAL!  REP IRELAND 1-3 DENMARK (Eriksen, 63)

That man Eriksen is the one to make the difference once again. Sisto gives the Spurs player the ball 20 yards from goal after Ireland allow him far too much space, allowing him to take a touch and precisely curl the ball beyond Randolph's outstretched right hand.

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

62: Brady whips in a free-kick form 35 yards, but it doesn't get anywhere near his teammates and instead bounces straight to Schmeichel.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

60: Ireland are playing very direct at times but still aren't offering Murphy the support in the final third he requires. Even if the striker does win the first ball, there's no one around him to get the second.

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

58: McClean collides with Poulsen, resulting the Dane's head striking Ward, leaving Poulsen requiring medical assistance on the floor.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

57: SHOT! Eriksen is sent clear through on goal, the Spurs man dribbles it away from the Irish defence and eventually smashes a shot from the edge of the area across Randoph, but the 'keeper reacts to keep it out and the rebound ends up in his possession.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

  REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

55: Brady swings over a corner onto the head of the Irish goalscorer Duffy but on this occasion, the header goes straight into the arms of Schmeichel who gladly holds the ball.

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

54: SUB! Stryger Larsen is off and Ankersen is on.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

53: SHOT! Eriksen flicks the ball around an Ireland midfielder into the path of Sisto who dribbles it towards goal and hits a fearsome shot from 25 yards, which is palmed away by Randolph.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

52: SHOT! Sisto looks the liveliest of the Danish players. The winger is playing from the left and keeps looking to cut in, on this occasion having a wild shot fly high and wide from 25 yards.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

51: Despite the added attacking players, the Irish can't get near the ball at the moment. They are just chasing the Danes around, tiring themselves out in the process.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

49: Denmark are slowing the game down as Ireland try to getting themselves going. Sisto has a shot from the edge of the area, but Christie deflects the ball wide.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

47: Corner to Ireland as Murphy puts Kjaer under pressure running towards his own goal, resulting in the Dane putting it behind.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

46: SUBS! Hoolahan and McGeady are on for Ireland, with Arter and Meyler off.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

46: The hosts have it all to do. Can they find two goals?

TAKING ADVANTAGE

Niall Quinn isn't happy, he said: "We were lead into a false sense of security going a goal up, and we stopped doing old fashioned dirty jobs of getting stuck in and having people work with each other. The whole place has been wide open and Denmark have taken advantage."

REP IRELAND v DENMARK PRICE BOOSTS

After landing the outside the box Price Boost - just! - Christian Eriksen is now an enhanced 4/1 to score a brace. Ireland are 18/1 to turn things round and win 3-2. It's 6/4 from 11/8 for Denmark to end the match victorious by their current one-goal margin.

 THE MAIN MAN

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

HT: It all started so well for Ireland but they were unable to build on Shane Duffy's opener. The Dane's in confidence and were invited on by the hosts, resulting in an own goal from Christie after good work from Sisto, quickly followed by Eriksen's fine effort, turning the game on its head.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

43: Arter intercepts a passing midway inside the Denmark half but then delays his pass to Brady, who struggles to find an angle and curls his cross straight into the side-netting.

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

41: PENALTY APPEAL! McClean is found in the box but after a poor first touch he collides with Christensen and goes down after minimal contact. Unsurprisingly, the referee isn't interested.

WATCH: ERIKSEN SCORES SECOND

William Unwin moderator 5pts

 REP IRELAND 1-2 DENMARK

39: The pitch is getting heavier due to the downpour, meaning it's looking a lot harder to pass the ball around. It probably doesn't help that they played rugby at the ground on Saturday.

Josh Allen is the draft’s most polarizing prospect

Some give him a pass due to the inexperienced supporting cast and tendency to make plays when his team needs him most. Others see the shaky accuracy and poor statistical production and can’t envision him as a first-round pick. Considering his rare combination of size, athleticism and arm strength, the debate will rage on

Joe Root determined England won't make the same mistakes as four years ago

After being ambushed by Mitchell Johnson and the rest of Australia’s team during his first Ashes tour four years ago, Joe Root is no mood to make the same mistake again ahead of this latest series. Now England’s captain, Root has already given a strong riposte to the pre-series mind games coming out of the Australian camp, dismissing talk of the Ashes being like “war” from David Warner and the supposed targeting of himself by Steve Smith’s team as “rubbish”.
