For many football fans it will be something that they don't want to contemplate, but there will have to come a day when Lionel Messi retires from the game.
The Barcelona and Argentina superstar has achieved remarkable things at club and international level, scoring 526 goals for Barca on the way to picking up pretty much every individual and team honour that the club game has to offer.
He's also Argentina's top scorer ever too, but it seems that such accolades and titles aren't often discussed in the Messi household, where it seems as though the topic of football isn't often on the table.
And as the man himself has revealed in an interview with Russian website Blic Sport , at the moment he doesn't see football in his future.
"I will probably not be a coach after I retire," he said, "but there is enough time, I can still change my mind.
"At home we rarely speak about football, it has to be something special around Barcelona or Argentina to open discussion about football during family lunch."
Messi also spoke about how he often wishes family life was a bit more "normal", but that he relishes his time with wife Antonella and sons Thiago and Mateo. The couple are also expecting a third child.
"I live a perfectly normal family life," he continued.
"Yes, sometimes I wish I could take my family for a walk without fans stopping me at every step. It feels incredible to be a parent, a father, it is one of the best things that ever happened to me."
