Hector Bellerin's stoppage-time goal rescued a 2-2 draw for Arsenal in a pulsating and controversial Premier League clash with Chelsea.

It looked like Chelsea had come from behind to triumph when Marcos Alonso struck six minutes from time, after Jack Wilshere's first league goal since May 2015 had been cancelled out by an Eden Hazard penalty.

But the Gunners would not be beaten and Bellerin punished Alonso's poor clearing header with a fine finish for a share of the points - though there was still time for Chelsea's Davide Zappacosta to hit the crossbar.

Alvaro Morata had missed a glorious chance to give Chelsea a 14th-minute lead and the visitors were then indebted to a Thibaut Courtois save which pushed Alexis Sanchez's shot on to both posts.

Wilshere broke the deadlock, but there were doubts over whether the midfielder should have been on the pitch.

Already booked, Wilshere went down looking for a free-kick on the edge of the area and might have received a second yellow card from referee Anthony Taylor for simulation.

The Gunners' lead lasted just four minutes as Hector Bellerin was adjudged to have fouled Hazard, who equalised with the resulting penalty.

Alonso's effort appeared decisive, only for Bellerin to strike.

Here's how the game unfolded.

Chelsea player ratings

Courtois 8 MOTM

Made super saves - one from Sanchez and another from Lacazette the pick.

Azpilicueta 7

So consistent and reliable. Kept Chelsea’s defence tight throughout.

Christensen 7

Composed in the heart of Chelsea’s defence, reads the game so well and strong.

Cahill 7

Solid performance for Chelsea, coped well with Lacazette’s runs and movement.

Moses 6

Pushed back by Maitland-Niles and largely spent the night defending. Hooked early.

Fabregas 7

Booked. Such a harsh booking - he got the ball. Could have scored, created chances.

Kante 7

Solid all night, lovely distribution, back on top of his game again. Excellent.

Bakayoko 5

Should have scored, wasteful with his passing, still waiting for him to burst to life.

Alonso 6

Good moments going forward, suspect in defence, rather typical display.

Hazard 7

Always a threat, glides across the pitch. Won and converted the penalty. Class.

Morata 5

Missed big chances for Chelsea. Could and should have had a hat trick.

Arsenal player ratings

Cech 7

Made some super saves but feels like he will never reach his 200th clean sheet.

Chambers 6

Horrible early mistake unnerved him but he did get better as game wore on.

Mustafi 7

Played in middle of the three, looked the elder statesman, held it together.

Holding 7

Booked. He has got so much promise, will still have nerve nights, but big future.

Bellerín 6

Solid defensively but lacking that zip that used to see him fly down the right.

Xhaka 6

Solid enough, some of his shooting was over ambitious and passing was patchy.

Wilshere 7

Booked. Fierce in the tackle, good passing and a brilliant goal. Terrific.

Maitland-Niles 7

Power, pace and drive. He bossed Arsenal’s left side but undone on Chelsea’s second goal.

Ozil 7

Arsenal’s driving force from midfield. Oozed class and quality but faded late on.

Sanchez 7

Will still be wondering how he didn’t score. Good energy and work rate.

Lacazette 6

Big miss in the second half. Arsenal’s £52m record signing still not convincing.

Report: Arsenal 2-2 Chelsea

Hector Bellerin struck in stoppage time to secure a dramatic draw for Arsenal against Chelsea.

Arsene Wenger was left fuming after Eden Hazard and Marcos Alonso staged what had appeared to be a stunning smash and grab raid for Chelsea.

Jack Wilshere had shot Arsenal to within 25 minutes of only their third victory in their last eight Premier League games.

The strike was the midfielder’s first goal in 43 Premier League matches, with his last against West Brom in May 2015.

But referee Anthony Taylor ruled Hector Bellerin had fouled Eden Hazard in the box just two minutes later. The Belgian then netted from the spot.

With six minutes left Alonso rifled in from close range from substitute Davide Zappacosta’s cross.

But with the clock ticking, Bellerin struck for the Gunners.

Here are five key talking points from the thriller at the Emirates.

21:40

And it's all over! What a game that was! After both sides failed to take their chances in the first half - notably a Morata miss and a Sanchez effort that struck both posts - both sides came to life in front of goal in the second half. Arsenal took the lead as Wilshere thumped the ball in from close range via the post, but a silly Bellerin challenge on Hazard in the box gave Chelsea a penalty, and the man fouled duly converted down the middle. The Blues went ahead as Alonso ghosted into the box to sweep home, but his poor clearance gave Bellerin the chance to make amends as he fired in a wonderful half-volley to restore parity! Chelsea could have won it at the death, but Drinkwater's effort could only clip the top of the crossbar after Morata's shot was saved! It finishes 2-2 at the Emirates!

PEEP! Full-time 2-2!

And breathe.

What a match.

Full coverage to come.

CROSSBAR! Morata is through again after another long ball forward competely catches the Arsenal defence out, but he shoots straight at Cech. Drinkwater hits the rebound on the half-volley, but it clips the top of the crossbar!

21:3590+2 minsminute by minute

WHAT A GOAL!! ARSENAL ARE LEVEL! The ball is only half-cleared to the edge of the box, and Bellerin places a delightful half-volley into the top corner to get the Gunners back on level terms!

21:3390+1 minsminute by minute

Walcott fires the ball into the area and it ends up at the feet of Sanchez, who swivels and shoots, but it's blocked by a defender.

21:3289 minsminute by minute

Courtois is booked for time-wasting.

21:3189 minsminute by minute

Mustafi tries to launch it forward for Walcott to chase, but it's too long and the flag goes up for offside anyway.

21:3090 minsSTATS

Overall Possession Ratio

Possession

21:3088 minsminute by minute

Desperate times call for desperate measures. Chambers is replaced by Walcott as Wenger swaps a defender for a forward. Can he inspire Arsenal to an equaliser, or even a late winner?

21:2987 minsminute by minute

Welbeck looks to be racing clear down the right, but his cross is blocked away! He hasn't made an impact yet since coming off the bench.

21:2886 minsminute by minute

CHANCE! Ozil's cross to the back post looks dangerous, but Chelsea twice recover to block goal-bound efforts. Arsenal now desperate for an equaliser as the visitors defend deep.

21:2684 minsminute by minute

GOAL! CHELSEA TAKE THE LEAD! I spoke too soon! Substitute Zappacosta gets the better of young Maitland-Niles, and it's Alonso of all people who ghosts into the box, gets the wrong side of his marker and finishes first-time to give Chelsea the lead!

21:3084 minsminute by minute

A Conte substitute made the difference, but it was Zappacosta, not Willian. His cross was low, driven, and into a good area.

21:2482 minsminute by minute

Another odd one. It seems as though both managers are settling for the draw here, as Conte withdraws his best player in Hazard. Willian is by no means a bad replacement, but Hazard is undoubtedly the star of this team.

21:2382 minsminute by minute

Bellerin gets the better of Alonso down the flank, but his cross is just over Welbeck and Chelsea clear.

21:2280 minsminute by minute

Hmm. Lacazette is replaced by Welbeck with 10 minutes remaining plus stoppage time. The club-record signing surely won't be happy about being denied the chance to grab a last-gasp winner, and surely Arsenal are less dangerous without their main man up front. Strange substitution.

21:1877 minsminute by minute

Maitland-Niles has been impressive tonight, and he shows a cool head as he plays the ball out under pressure and finds his man with a simple pass.

21:1876 minsminute by minute

Lacazette just can't take Ozil's pass in, and Chelsea break with pace, but Cech is there to snuff out the danger as he collects Morata's low cross.

21:1777 minsSTATS

Overall Possession Ratio

Possession

21:1674 minsminute by minute

It's Chelsea who are now ramping up the pressure, as Arsenal are forced to simply clear their lines in an attempt to get out of their own area.

21:1472 minsminute by minute

BLOCK! Kante's drive is delfected just round the post as Cech was left grasping at thin air!

21:1371 minsminute by minute

Fabregas is replaced by Drinkwater as Conte goes for more solidity in midfield.

21:1270 minsminute by minute

MISS! Another glaring miss! Morata is played through again and Chambers tracks him as best he can, but he's the wrong side of the Spaniard. Morata tries a dinked effort at the near post, but it's into the side-netting! Chelsea have been so wasteful in front of goal.
