A young British woman has been found dead alongside her boyfriend in suspected murder-suicide in Sydney.
The woman, in her 20s, was found with head wounds lying next to a man in his 30s at a flat in the Newtown suburb, police said.
The couple's landlord is believed to have raised the alarm after he discovered the grisly scene at around 5.30pm on Friday when he went to deliver their mail.
Emergency services were called to the scene, in a tiny flat above a Persian restaurant on King Street.
New South Wales Police Force said they do not believe the woman's killer is at large.
"At this stage we suspect it is a possible murder-suicide," Marrickville Local Area Command Inspector Geoff Olsen told the Daily Telegraph .
In a statement, the force said: "Police attended and discovered the bodies of a woman, aged in her 20s, and a man, aged in his 30s."
Local police and detectives from the state's homicide squad launched an investigation and officials from the British embassy have been in contact with the woman's family.
The nationality and identify of the man have not been released, although he is understood to not be from the UK.
A Foreign Office spokesman said: "We are providing consular assistance to the family of a British national who has died in New South Wales, Australia, and our staff are in contact with the New South Wales police."
