MASSIVE EXPLOSION in Brit holiday hotspot kills at least 8 and leaves dozens injured

AT least eight people have been killed and another 50 injured following a huge blast in Portugal, according to reports.

BLAST: At least 8 people have been killed in the explosion

The explosion rocked a road in Tondela, 122 miles away from Lisbon, earlier today.

Mayor Jose Antonio de Jesus said: “Several dozen people have been injured, some lightly and other gravely, and are still being assisted.”

It is believed the blast was caused due to a wood-burning stove in the two-storey building.

Paulo Santos, Civil Protection Agency commander, said at least 50 people had been injured.

Witnesses said a fire that spread in the building following the explosion caused panic among residents.

They added people crowded the exits a thick some filled the building.

Dozens of fire crews and two helicopters were seen rushing to the scene before paramedics took the injured to hospital.

The blast comes after Portugal’s deadliest-ever forest fires last year, which killed more than 100 people.

Earlier this week Daily Star Online reported how a massive fire tore through a building near a major international airport.

Pictures showed a massive fire tearing through the St Margaret’s Recycling and Car Scrapping as firefighters battled the blaze.

Dublin Fire Brigade sent eight fire engines and scores of firefighters to the scene.

Thick black smoke could be seen rising over Dublin Airport and by aircraft flying into the busy international terminal.
