The death of Kenneka Jenkins is still fresh in the minds of most netizens, yet what really happened to the 19-year-old Saturday at Crowne Plaza Chicago O’Hare Hotel & Conference Center in Rosemont, Illinois, is still unknown — some claimed. As far as police are concerned, there isn’t enough evidence to indicate her death was a homicide. They said she was intoxicated, walked into a walk-in freezer at the hotel and died.
An autopsy has not yet been complete and authorities weren’t reveal if there were lacerations on her body.
Social media users, on the other hand, concocted a much more sinister tale. Based off a Facebook Live video posted to one of her friend’s accounts, netziens fabricated various stories about Jenkins’ final moments. The common claim is that Jenkins’ friends, Monifah Shelton and Irene Roberts, set her up to be raped and killed. They were supposedly paid $200 for their services.
Some people claimed that Jenkins could be seen in the reflection of Roberts’ glasses while she was filming the video. Another story is that Jenkins yelled, “help me,” in the background and then Roberts turned up the music so her friends apparent cries for help couldn’t be heard. The final theory is that a man in the background seemingly says, “we’re going to murder someone tonight.” The video was viewed millions of times.

Neither Roberts nor Shelton have issued statements since their friend died. Though Shelton did post about her friend when she was missing early Saturday morning.
“Come home so I could see yo big ass smile. idk how to feel right now I'm literally sick to my stomach. I love u so much & I hate this even happening to you right now I'm over here praying for you baby wherever u at I hope u okay god got you,” she wrote.
Jenkins’ mother, Tereasa Martin, was convinced someone at the hotel killed her daughter. “I believe someone in this hotel killed my child,” Martin told WGN-TV Sunday. “(I'm) horrified. It's something that no one could ever imagine. It's unbelievable.”
Jenkins’ sister, Leonore Harris, added to the network: “The freezer door is heavy. So there's no way. If they're saying she's drunk, she don't have no strength. If she had enough strength to open that freezer door, she would have had enough strength to walk straight.”
There is no proof of this and police did not name Shelton or Roberts as suspects in Jenkins’ death. Still, authorities said they were looking at the video for evidence and pursuing any possible leads.
“Yes, they’ve looked at it and continue to look at it and all the other social media videos and posts. They are leaving no stone unturned as far as trying to corral everyone they can and talk to them and interview them about what happened and what was going on that night,” Rosemont Police spokesman Gary Mack told the Chicago Tribune Monday.
