The latest NOAA advisory at 11am AST forecast the eye of Irma should continue to move closer to Turks and Caicos as the evening progresses.
Hurricane Irma is moving towards the Dominican Republic in a west-north-westerly direction at 17mph.
Irma’s path of destruction will carry on in this general direction, toward Miami, Florida, over the next few days.
The monster storm has already claimed the lives of at least 10 people as it crossed the Caribbean and is expected to make landfall in Miami, Florida this weekend.
US forecaster, Craig Setzer, in Miami issued a stark, telling Florida residents to brace themselves as Irma strengthens as it heads in their direction.
He said: “You can still see a very powerful looking eyewall, that is the part of the storm where the worst of the weather is.
“That is the part we don’t want to go through, the outside part is still hurricane-force winds but it’s that core eyeball we just hope does not come here.”
Setzer also warned of possible storm surges dumping huge amounts of sea water on Miami as Hurricane Irma hits.
