NEXT time you’re in Newcastle Airport make sure you stop and appreciate it – because it’s been voted as one of the finest on earth.
The Geordie transport hub has been named best in its category in the annual Airport Service Quality Awards.
Its category was "Best Airport by Size and Region that serves between two and five million people."
The awards recognise airports that offer the greatest customer service.
This means that Newcastle is the best small airport for customer service in Europe.
16 UK airports are part of the Airport Service Quality network – as well as 74 per cent of the world’s top busiest airports.
So Newcastle has fought off big competition.
Nick Jones, Chief Executive Officer at Newcastle International, said: “I’m absolutely delighted that Newcastle Airport has won this award.
“Everyone here at Newcastle goes above and beyond to offer an excellent experience for our passengers.
"It’s great to see that that’s been recognised."
Other winning airports including Sochi, Athens, Moscow Sheremetyavo and Rome Fiumicino.
