The world's busiest airline routes have been revealed - and it's domestic corridors in South Korea and Australia that are the most congested.

Figures from respected flight data company OAG show that there were almost 65,000 flights between Jeju and Seoul Gimpo in 2017 - a 282-mile trip - and 54,519 from Melbourne to Sydney.

Meanwhile the most congested international routes are between Hong Kong and Taipei with almost 30,000 flights over the past 12 months as well as Kuala Lumpur to Singapore, where 29,383 flights were operated.

The data comes from a comprehensive annual report that also looked into both airline and airport punctuality.

It shows that many more domestic flights are operated than international services.

The next three busiest domestic routes are Mumbai to Dehli (47,462), Fukuoka to Tokyo Haneda (42,835) and Rio de Janeiro to Sao Paulo Congonhas (39,325).

However, services between the two Indian cities, which are operated by five different airlines, only have a punctuality score of 59.14 per cent.
