CARRIE ANN INABA & ROBB DERRINGER

The Dancing with the Stars judge and her actor fiancé quietly split in September 2017, a source confirmed to PEOPLE. After Derringer proposed in December 2016, the couple had been planning a wedding in Hawaii. Just a month before the end of their engagement became public, Inaba chatted about the nuptials to PEOPLE, saying, “I’ve thought more about the wedding than the reception. A wedding is sacred. It’s a profound moment in one’s life and we both want to focus more on the ceremony and make sure it represents our love and truth in a very intimate and special way.” But on Sept. 7, breakup rumors started swirling after Inaba posted a cryptic quote on Instagram — “Just when I think I learned the way to live, life changes." PEOPLE confirmed the news six days later.

MARIAH CAREY & JAMES PACKER

Not even a 33-carat diamond could make this love last. Carey and Packer called off their 10-month-long engagement after a fight during a Greek vacation, and are currently taking a break from one another. However, this may not be the end for the two ultra-successful lovebirds. "It's possible they will get back together," a source told PEOPLE. "They are still talking, but James needed a break."

LADY GAGA & TAYLOR KINNEY

He may have given her a heart-shaped rock, but the romance didn't last for Gaga and her Chicago Fire star fiancé, Kinney. They called things off in July 2016 after getting engaged over Valentine's Day in 2015 and dating for four years prior to that.

JENNIFER LOPEZ & BEN AFFLECK

Before there was Ben and Jen Garner, there was the original Bennifer: Lopez and Affleck, who were the hot celeb couple of the early aughts. Every part of their romance was heavily documented – including the $2.5 million engagement ring he gave her and their ill-fated big-screen couple debut in Gigli. They were set to wed in September 2003 when Affleck called it off just four days before. They officially split a few months later.

JUDE LAW & SIENNA MILLER

Law and Miller had a relationship wrought with drama – in particular, his cheating scandal with his children's nanny. It was that drama that ended their engagement in 2005 after Law publicly apologized. They later reunited in 2009, but it didn't last: they split again in 2011.

RYAN REYNOLDS & ALANIS MORISSETTE

Before Blake Lively, before Scarlett Johansson, there was Ms. Morissette. The two were engaged for three years, but ended things in 2007.

MILEY CYRUS & LIAM HEMSWORTH

They met on the set of The Last Song, and it was full-on romance from there, resulting in their engagement in May 2012, when Cyrus was just 19 years old. They first decided to postpone their wedding in 2013, and then canceled it later that year. However, the lovers found their way back to one another earlier this year, reuniting – and making things official on Instagram.

RACHEL WEISZ & DARREN ARONOFSKY

These two might hold the record for longest-ever celebrity engagement without a wedding: It lasted for five years before they parted ways. Just a year later, Weisz married Daniel Craig.

SHERYL CROW & LANCE ARMSTRONG

Armstrong and Crow ended their five-month-long engagement in 2006, a few months before their planned nuptials. Armstrong later discussed the romance, saying: "She wanted marriage, she wanted children; and not that I didn't want that, but I didn't want that at that time because I had just gotten out of a marriage, I'd just had kids. Yet we're up against her biological clock – that pressure is what cracked it."
