'Shame on you': Topshop SLAMMED for making epic blunder with 'vegan' T-shirt

TOPSHOP has faced a social media backlash for sending mixed messages with this "vegan" T-shirt.

TOPSHOP

TOPFLOP: The high-street retailer has divided opinion with this clothing item

Topshop made an unfortunate mistake when releasing these T-shirts across their stores.

The cute pink tee, which features a dinosaur and the word “vegan” is almost completely sold-out online.

Even though many have been loving the £22 slogan top, some eagle-eyed shoppers have noticed something odd about the product.

Although the T-shirt appears to be promoting the plant-based lifestyle, the label features a non-vegan recipe.

The tag lists off the ingredients you need to make a cake – including “3 large eggs” and “16oz butter”.

Even though this may seem innocent enough, customers hake taken to social media to slam the gaffe.

One Twitter user commented: “Seriously?’ A tee that advertises veganism but then come with a cake recipe that is far from vegan... missed opportunity there.”

She also worried that the retailer was poking fun at their customers who don’t eat meat.

The shopper added: “Shame on you @TeeAndCakeUK and do you really want to promote that negativity @Topshop?!”

Another customer piped-up: “We were so excited to buy this today and then saw that the label has a recipe containing 3 large eggs. Can you explain? Wtf”.

A third added: “@Topshop may want to check what vegan means! Haha.”

Even though the high-street store has faced a backlash over the tops, some don’t see what all the fuss is about.

Jimmy Pierson, director of food awareness group ProVeg UK, said: “We love Topshop’s ‘vegan dino’ T-shirts, despite the printing error on the label!

“It’s very clearly an oversight from the manufacturer, nothing more – they use this same label on every item in their range.

“More importantly, these t-shirts show just how mainstream and popular veganism has become now it’s being printed on clothes sold in one of the most well-known fashion retailers in the world!”

A Topshop spokesperson said: “The T-shirt is a brand that we stock at Topshop called Tee & Cake. The label is across all of the T-shirts in the line.

“As the brand is called Tee and Cake it has a whimsical recipe in the label. The label is nothing to do with what’s on the front of the T-shirt.”

Daily Star Online has contacted Tee and Cake for comment.
