If you were a sports fan during Michael Jordan's illustrious playing career in the NBA, you could count on getting a complete eyeful of Jordan during any particular game. From his amazing actions on the court to his seemingly endless endorsements, it was clear that Jordan was a solid pitchman in addition to being arguably the greatest basketball player to ever live.

Even in retirement, Jordan has still done well for himself on the commercial side of things. One of the leading faces of Nike, you can still see highlights of him flying through the sky during the prime of his NBA career in various Gatorade commercials, with the most famous of those being the "Be Like Mike" commercial.

So it seems fitting that the sportswear giant and energy drink magnate would link up in an effort to promote Michael Jordan's latest line of shoes.

Nike has revealed that Gatorade and the Jordan Brand are working together to release a collection of "Be Like Mike" Jordan shoes, among other items. This includes four new Air Jordan shoes that all have hints of the Gatorade branding incorporated into the sneaker design.

Although there are four new shoes on the way, Nike has only given us a look at two of them. They've come up with "Like Mike" versions of the Air Jordan XXXII and the Air Jordan VI. Both pairs of shoes are decked out in the famous Gatorade color scheme of orange, green and black and the brand's lightning bolt logo takes the place of the "I" in "Mike" on the outsole of the Jordan XXXII's.

The "Mike" logo with the lightning bolt "I" is also emblazoned on t-shirts, hoodies as well, while the throwback Gatorade logo also makes an appearance on jackets, long-sleeved t-shirts and hats. In fact, Darren Rovell of ESPN is reporting that Gatorade will go one step further on the throwback side of things by partnering with 7-Eleven to sell Gatorade in the old retro glass bottles. Now that's a real blast to the past.

As Gatorade head of sports marketing Jeff Kearney noted in his conversation with Rovell, Air Jordan had a hit on their hands last year when they came out with gear related to the Space Jam movie. This year they've once again dipped their fingers into the nostalgia well and the water of days gone by came up in the hue of yellow that fills up an old glass bottle of Gatorade. It sure looks like the Jordan Brand has come up with another solid idea that should be a hot seller.

Granted, it would be difficult for any Air Jordan shoe to not sell well, but the rest of the gear looks good enough to indicate to me that this should be a hot seller with the holidays right around the corner. The Gatorade-inspired "Mike" logo on its own is a clever bit of logo design and if that alone was the only part of the brand that we got to see, then I would have been excited just for that alone.

With that being said, the rest of this set is very solid and it should quench the thirst that Jordan fans, Gatorade fans, and fans of any other athletic apparel brand have for stylish gear and high-end shoes.
